MOPS

Mothers of Preschoolers, exists to meet the needs of every mom – urban, suburban, and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single, and married moms – moms with different lifestyles who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be! MOPS recognizes that the years from infancy to kindergarten are foundational in a mother-child relationship and are filled with unique needs.

How MOPS began
Eight women. The number was small, but the need was great. The first MOPS meeting took place in February 1973 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. For two hours, while their children received care, these mothers talked, laughed, ate, passed a basket for childcare expenses, had a craft demonstration and ended with a short devotional. In this humble beginning, the seeds of the MOPS concept and format were planted. Through friendship, creative outlets, and instruction, the women began to understand that “mothering matters.” Today, the same needs for significance are met in much the same way in MOPS groups across the United States and around the world.

FUMC MOPS
Our local MOPS group is not unlike that first group that met in 1973. Moms come together to share breakfast, laughter, support, a speaker or activity and a short devotion. Our meetings and other events are a time for moms to come together to share with one another while their children are being cared for. In addition, other monthly activities are planned such as Kids Day Out and Moms Night Out. Participating in these activites can enhance the MOPS experience and continue to build relationships between the other mothers and children in our group.

Younger children and home-schooled students are invited to attend our MOPPETS program during each monthly meeting.

We meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month, September-May from 9:30 am-11:30 am. Our local dues are $50/year (can be split in two payments) and an International MOPS Membership fee of $23.95. Come to a meeting and visit with us before making a commitment to join. Scholarships are available for those with a financial need. Please contact the Coordinator for more information. All requests will be confidential.
