As the Psalmist wrote, “…Children are a gift from the Lord” (Psalm 127:3a). At Florence United Methodist, we embrace this notion and strive daily to provide entertaining and stimulating opportunities to help children develop strong and personal relationships with God.
What We Believe
Florence United Methodist believes that children belong in worship. By welcoming kids at our church’s most sacred moments, children learn that nothing can separate them from the love of God. By worshiping together with our children, families can pass on traditions for praising God through the sacraments, music, sharing the good news, and offering gifts and prayers.
To help families navigate worship time, supplies for children to use during services is available in the back of the sanctuary. Kids can take whatever items seem interesting, use them during the service, and return them when they are done. Worship supplies include coloring sheets, puzzle pages, children’s Bibles, story books and crayons.
Even though children are always welcome in worship, FUMC recognizes the need for age-appropriate learning. As a result, Children’s Church occurs in both 9:00am and 11:00am worship services right after the children’s moment, downstairs in the Children’s Church Chapel (L16). Children 4 years old through 3rd grade are welcome to attend this worship which helps them to worship in ways that children experience their world: art, singing, games, and laughing. The first Sunday of each month, the children will come upstairs to enter into the Sacrament of Holy Communion with their families.
Children preschoolers through 5th grade meet from 10:00 – 10:45 each Sunday morning in the Children’s Classrooms. Curriculum is designed for a variety of learning styles to help children experience the Bible in ways they can understand.
Toddlers (18 months to 2 yrs) meet in the Nursery, from 10:00 – 10:45 on Sunday mornings. Activities include a Bible Story, an active game, a snack, arts and crafts, and songs of praise.
At FUMC, we believe that children learn about God from birth, and we teach this through music, stories, and the love of caring workers. All our staff have undergone background screening and are trained and experienced in the care of very young children, including CPR and first aid certification.
“Nursery is available during both 9:00 and 11:00 services as well as for the 10:00 Sunday school hour for babies and toddlers. Nursery is also often available for many other FUMC activities throughout the week such as Bible studies, women’s circles, Wednesday night life and choir practices.
